Time & Days in Korean: Talk about schedules the easy way (A1)
Planning your week? Meeting a friend? In Korean, talking about days and time is simple once you know the building blocks. Today you’ll learn the days of the week, how to say "today/tomorrow," and how to tell the time using 시, 분, and 반. We’ll practice with short, real-life phrases you can use right away.
Days of the week in Korean
Korean weekdays follow a clear pattern: [X]요일.
- 월요일 (Monday)
- 화요일 (Tuesday)
- 수요일 (Wednesday)
- 목요일 (Thursday)
- 금요일 (Friday)
- 토요일 (Saturday)
- 일요일 (Sunday)
You can add the particle 에 after a day to mean “on [day].” For example: 월요일에 수업이 있어요. (I have class on Monday.)
우리는 에 만나요.
Today, tomorrow, yesterday
These words are super handy for daily talk:
- 오늘 (today)
- 내일 (tomorrow)
- 모레 (the day after tomorrow)
- 어제 (yesterday)
Use them with the copula ~이에요/예요 to say the day: 오늘은 수요일이에요.
수업은 에 시작해요.
Culture note
The typical Korean work week is Monday–Friday (평일). Many people meet friends on 주말 (weekends). Stores are often open on Saturdays, and Sundays are common family or rest days, though it varies by area and job.
Telling the time: 시, 분, 반
To say the clock time in Korean:
- Hour: Native Korean numbers + 시
- 1시 = 한 시, 2시 = 두 시, 3시 = 세 시, 4시 = 네 시
- Minute: Sino-Korean numbers + 분 (5분, 10분, 15분, etc.)
- Half past: 반 ("half")
Examples:
- 지금 세 시예요. (It’s 3 o’clock now.)
- 회의는 두 시 반에 시작해요. (The meeting starts at 2:30.)
- 버스는 여덟 시 오 분에 출발해요. (The bus leaves at 8:05.)
회의는 두 시 시작해요.
지금 시예요.
It’s 3:15 now.
Make clear plans
Combine days + time + 에 for clear schedules:
- 금요일에 세 시에 만나요. (Let’s meet at 3 on Friday.)
- 토요일에 여덟 시 오 분에 출발해요. (We leave at 8:05 on Saturday.)
- 평일에 아침 일찍 일어나요. (On weekdays, I get up early.)
Quick summary
- Days: 월/화/수/목/금/토/일 + 요일
- Today/tomorrow: 오늘, 내일, 모레, 어제
- Time: native numbers + 시 (hour), Sino numbers + 분 (minute), 반 = :30
- Use 에 after days/time to say when: 금요일에, 세 시에
Keep practicing with short phrases: 오늘은 수요일이에요; 금요일에 세 시에 만나요; 지금 다섯 시 반이에요.
You’ve got this! Keep using these patterns in everyday plans, and your Korean schedule-talk will feel natural fast.
